Thank you for taking the time to visit our education page. If you’re seeing this, you’ve been invited to join our Education Outside The Classroom Information Evening and even better, one of our Familiarization Tours!
It’s going to be an awesome afternoon and evening of zip lining, learning, and networking with other intermediate and high school principals, and Head of Departments from around the North Island. We’re super excited and hope you are too!
Ziplining at Rotorua Canopy Tours all started as a dream of James Fitzgerald’s back in 2008. He dreamed of a forest full of native treasures – ancient trees, native birds and insects. Also people singing and people laughing, learning and having the time of their lives. So, James teamed up with uni mate, Andrew Blackford and together with a fair bit of trial and error, they created Rotorua Canopy Tours.
We opened the doors at Rotorua Canopy Tours just over 5 years ago now, having to bribe the first customers to come ziplining with promise of free pizza. Since then Rotorua Canopy Tours has become an award winning experience taking up to 170 people through the Canopy Tour each day.
Gain an in insight into our Conservation project to restore the Dansey Road Scenic reserve and its wildlife, while also being made aware of the impacts that introduced predators have had on our environment. You will also understand how our guests are educated throughout their tour and how they contribute to the project, as well as develop an appreciation of Native New Zealand Forest, and how unique our eco-systems are.
The forest, however, is no ordinary forest. Take a step back in time as your guides take you venturing trough what New Zealand would have looked like pre-human arrival, and in a way like never before – flying between and above ancient trees and ferns.
With 6 ziplines, 2 swing bridges and 1 unforgettable experience, our tours are 3 hours in length, from check in to arrival back at our headquarters. You will have 2 of our highly trained, Kiwi guides gear you up at base, before jumping in one of our vans and heading out with them to the forest.
Safety rules above all else in our business. We consider ourselves to be leaders in the industry with our systems, culture, attitude and policies to safety.
Rotorua Canopy Tours is fully compliant and independently audited under the Adventure Activities Regulations 2011. We are also a Qualmark Endorsed Visitor Activity.
If you would like a copy of our Safety Management Plan, we will happily provide one, which should satisfy all RAMs requirements.
A Risk Disclosure Form is required to be completed for each participant. For educational groups, we provide this is advance, so they can be completed by parents/caregivers.
Never zip lined before?
No worries! Our guides do everything for you so you don’t need to worry about that. If you’re a bit nervous or don’t like heights, you’re not the first we’ve had! Have a read here on how others have overcome that fear.
