Rotorua Canopy Tours team head to Pure Cruise – Lake Rotoiti
Every four of months the Rotorua Canopy Tours team gets together and heads out on a fun afternoon adventure. In January after a busy summer it was time to relax and have some fun, so we shut the doors of the Rotorua Canopy Tours office one afternoon and the whole team piled into three vans and we headed off on a top secret adventure….
Rotorua Canopy Tours Adventure Challenge
The three staff members that had organised the afternoon, Shanyn, Spencer and Ana, kept us all in suspense until we reached our first destination. We opened the van doors and found ourselves at Pita Pit! The vans had split up and pretty soon we realised there were three challenges set for us.

#1: Pita Pit Challenge
At Pita Pit, Phil and his awesome team had created a taste test challenge. We were blindfolded and all given a tasty Pita to eat. With the combined team effort we were to name all the ingredients in the Pita, needless to say this was the tastiest of the challenges!
#2: Crossbar Challenge
With a full belly we headed onto Neil Hunt Park for challenge number two. Each team member had to throw a soccer ball at the soccer goal post and try and hit the cross bar. There were different cones at different distances from the goal, the further you were the higher points you recieved. This was a timed challenge, one I was not so great at. Luckily some of our team had some great skills and we did pretty well on this challenge.

#3: Redwood Photo Challenge
All energy drained from our arms, the last stop was at the Redwood Forest. Here we ran around with cameras completing a photo challenge, encouraging tourists from all over the world to take photos with us. The more photos we took, the more points we got. This was great fun for us and all the new friends we made.
The challenges were so much fun, it was a pretty tight contest and our team came second overall. It was now time to relax, we all piled back in the vans one last time and we were taken to our final secret location…
We were all excited when we saw where we were spending the evening, on board Pure Cruise. Pure Cruise is a sailing experience on Lake Rotoiti, the team looked after us well. They put on an amazing gourmet BBQ for us followed by a delicious dessert. Some of team enjoyed a refreshing dip in the clear waters, with a few brave ones jumping from the upper decks of the sailing boat.

Matt, the skipper, found a secluded beach where we stopped off and played the finals of our Cornhole Championship (Cornhole is a game where you through a small corn filled sack throw a hole on a board – great fun!). The team sat on the front of the sail boat and watched the action. The final was between Guide Dan and Moerangi – one of our reservations team. Moerangi had an amazing game and was crowned the first Rotorua Canopy Tours Cornhole champion, winning herself the ‘Fitzgerald Cup’!

After 3 hours of having an absolute blast it was time to call it a night! The team had an awesome time completing their adventure challenges and the relaxing evening with Pure Cruise.
